Here is one of Debbie Shabot's favorite family recipes

Dear Family,

Here is a recipe which takes me back to when I was a little girl. Have you ever tasted Aunt Lora's Passover Mocha Bars? Since my birthday often fell during Passover (it still happens sometimes!), and I've always loved chocolate (now it shows), and I was Aunt Lora's favorite niece (that part hasn't been proven, so all the other nieces shouldn't feel bad), Aunt Lora frequently sent me these brownies for my birthday. When I grew up, she stopped sending the brownies (darn!), so I finally had to ask for the recipe so I could make them myself. If you can't get Aunt Lora to make these brownies for you, you should make them yourself! They're the BEST (even if I am a little biased)! ** Debbie (contributed 10.4.00)

Aunt Lora's Passover Mocha Bars

2 oz. unsweetened chocolate
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. instant coffee
1/2 cup matzoh cake meal
1/2 cup chopped nuts

Melt chocolate and shortening together; cool. Beat eggs, sugar and salt until light. Stir in the chocolate mixture. Combine the coffee and the cake meal and add to the above mixture. Mix well. Pour into a 9-inch square pan and sprinkle with nuts. Bake at 325 about 20 minutes or until firm. Cut into squares or bars.
